princes-trust.org.uk/sport05"An inspirational young man"Gareth O'Hara, 21Blackburn Rovers legend Bryan Douglas presented a team shirt to lifelong Rovers fan Gareth O'Hara, who has been helped by The Prince's Trust, during half time at a home game against Arsenal.Bryan said: "I felt extremely proud to present Gareth with a Rovers shirt. He is an inspirational young man who represents the work of The Prince's Trust in Blackburn."Gareth was homeless and addicted to drugs at just 16. He eventually found help and, since completing the Get Started with Football course, has turned his life around. Gareth is captain of the James Street Elite football team and has enrolled on a motor vehicle refi nishing course at Blackburn College.with more than 4,900 14-30 year-olds across the North West who were struggling at school, had been in care, were long-term unemployed or had been in trouble with the law. Ryan said: "Today's session was an amazing opportunity for me to meet local young people who have been supported by The Prince's Trust. Each week, the team proudly wears the logo of The Prince's Trust to compete, and it's inspiring to know that money raised through the partnership will be invested in helping young people in our local community fi nd their path in life."The Trust has a long history of partnering with football to bring about positive change. Through its partnership with the Premier League and Professional Footballers' Association, The Trust has helped more than 18,000 young people since 1997, working with more than 65 Premier League and Football League clubs to deliver a range of programmes.Ex-Rovers striker Kevin Gallacher met young people on The Prince's Trust Get into Customer Service and Retail course in October, giving them an inspirational talk and answering questions about his football career. Kevin said: "It's been fantastic to meet local young people who are trying to turn their lives around. I think I've done well today. It's a good sport to try and one of the umpires asked me if I had played before. He suggested that I find a club near where I live and I'm going to look into playing for a team after today. Lord's is a cool place and I'd definitely like to take this further."Last summer, nine teams of young people had the opportunity to bat, bowl and field on the hallowed ground of Lord's in the 2011 Prince's Trust xl Cricket Festival.Mixed teams from around the UK played in a tournament to mark the end of six weeks of coaching by experts from the Leicestershire and Rutland, Surrey, Cheshire and Northumberland cricket boards. England women's wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor kept score and joined Leicestershire's Tom Wells for a Q&A session. The pair gave prizes to the winning team - Longslade A from Longslade Community College in Leicestershire - and the runners-up, as well as awards for fair play and the best male and female players.
