04The Result / Giving young people a sporting chanceCharity partners ROVERS and the trust in PARTNERSHIPPremier League football club Blackburn Rovers has teamed up with The Prince's Trust in a unique Charity of the Year partnership for the 2011-12 season.Rovers has donated the branding space on its famous shirts to the charity instead of selling it to a sponsor. The club, which has a history of running Prince's Trust programmes, has committed to fundraising for the charity throughout the season in addition to the pro bono shirt contribution. It is hoped that money raised through the partnership will help provide more Prince's Trust programmes in Blackburn.In September, Rovers and New Zealand captain Ryan Nelsen met a group of local young people who have all benefited from Prince's Trust programmes delivered through the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service. He is an inspirational young man who represents the work of The Prince's Trust in Blackburn."Gareth was homeless and addicted to drugs at just 16. He eventually found help and, since completing the Get Started with Football course, has turned his life around. Gareth is captain of the James Street Elite football team and has enrolled on a motor vehicle refi nishing course at Blackburn College.with more than 4,900 14-30 year-olds across the North West who were struggling at school, had been in care, were long-term unemployed or had been in trouble with the law. Ryan said: "Today's session was an amazing opportunity for me to meet local young people who have been supported by The Prince's Trust. Each week, the team proudly wears the logo of The Prince's Trust to compete, and it's inspiring to know that money raised through the partnership will be invested in helping young people in our local community fi nd their path in life."The Trust has a long history of partnering with football to bring about positive change. Through its partnership with the Premier League and Professional Footballers' Association, The Trust has helped more than 18,000 young people since 1997, working with more than 65 Premier League and Football League clubs to deliver a range of programmes.Ex-Rovers striker Kevin Gallacher met young people on The Prince's Trust Get into Customer Service and Retail course in October, giving them an inspirational talk and answering questions about his football career. Kevin said: "It's been fantastic to meet local young people who are trying to turn their lives around.
