ITF wheelchair tournaments won from Futures to Grand Slam levelBoys2011 was a real breakthrough year for the boys with some fantastic performances across the age groups. They performed particularly well at the Grand Slams with three British boys reaching the last four of the US Open. Oliver Golding took the title, beating world No.1 Jiri Vesely in the final.Liam Broady reached the final of the singles at Junior Wimbledon with George Morgan taking the doubles title with Croatian partner Mate Pavic, narrowly beating Oliver Golding and his partner in the final. George Morgan made history as the first British player to win the prestigious Orange Bowl 18U title in Florida.PERFORMANCEGirlsDespite struggling with injuries in the early part of the year Laura Robson managed to reach a career high ranking of 146, qualifying for and winning a round in the main draw at the women's US Open. 15 year old Eleanor Dean won her first 10k womens event in Holland. Anastasia Mikheeva won the Tennis Europe 12U events at Auray and Billancourt, France.It was a good year for the girls team with the 16U girls qualifying for the Junior Fed Cup World Finals by finishing 4th in the European Summer Cup. The 14U team finished 2nd in Europe and 8th in the World while the 12U girls came 8th in the European Team competition.Disability Tennis2011 was a strong year for wheelchair tennis with British players winning 21 ITF tournaments from Futures to Grand Slam level. After winning his first Grand Slam title with Peter Norfolk at the Australian Open, Andy Lapthorne became the youngest ever quad player to reach doubles world No.1. He now also has a career high singles world ranking of No.4 and also finished runner up at the NEC wheelchair tennis masters.In deaf tennis, British women came 4th and men 7th at the Dresse Maere Cup in the summer, the blind tennis version of Davis Cup.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR2011 has been a strong year for performance tennis with some excellent results across the board. Here we take a look at the highlights of the year...2118 PERFORMANCEwomen gained direct entry into the main draw of the US Open for the first time in 19 years.MenAndy Murray continued to lead the way in the senior game in 2011, becoming only the seventh player in the Open era to reach the semi-finals of all four grand-slam tournaments in one calendar year. He also won five ATP singles titles including the AEGON Championships at The Queen's Club for the second time in three years. James Ward made it another Open era first for British tennis by joining Andy in the semi-finals at the AEGON Championships, beating the defending champion Sam Querrey on the way. In doing so he reached his first ATP 250 semi-final. On the doubles courts there was another good year for Ross Hutchins and Colin Fleming. They won their first ATP title as a pair in St. Petersburg and became the first British pair to reach the quarter-finals of the men's doubles tournament at Wimbledon since 1993, also going on to reach the quarter-finals of the US Open. Jamie Murray won two ATP titles in 2011, reaching a career high ranking of world No.23, and there was also success on the Challenger Tour for Jamie Delgado & Jonny Marray and at Futures level for Sean Thornley & David Rice.In the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas the AEGON GB Davis Cup Team were promoted into the Europe/Africa Zone Group 1 following successive victories against Tunisia, Luxembourg and Hungary.WomenBritish women had another successful year with Elena Baltacha, Anne Keothavong and Heather Watson all finishing inside the top 100. Elena was also the first British woman to finish inside the world's top 50 since the late 1980s.At the US Open three women gained direct entry into the main draw for the first time in 19 years. They were joined by qualifier, Laura Robson, who subsequently won a round. The Fed Cup team came 5th in the Euro Africa Group 1 in February with a doubles win against world No.1 Caroline Wozniaki.One of the highlights of the year was the unbeaten run of the 16U boys team.
