The construction sector accounted for 7.5% of allworkforce jobs in Wales. This has been volatilewithin a margin of ± 1% to 2%.. A total 158,165 full time equivalent (FTE) jobsthroughout the regional economy are estimated tobe supported by construction in 2011. . The construction sector comprised 11,310enterprises in 2011. 11,155 were SMEs. Construction output declined sharply in 2009 by15% in real terms, but grew strongly by 18% in2010. The real decline in output between 2007 and2010 was less than 2% and is expected to havelead to a decline of just over 2% in the direct GVAcontribution of the industry to the region.. The volume of new housing grew by 6% in 2010,but only having fallen 13% in 2008 and 18% in2009. Public housing has been growing at anannualised rate of 29% in the period 2008-10. Whileprivate housing has been declining significantly, thepace of decline slowed in 2010.. The volume of new infrastructure grew by 55% in2008 but has cooled since, declining by close to 5%in 2009 and growing by 7% in 2010.. Employment in construction has declinedsignificantly, with an estimated 119,326 FTE jobs in the sector in 2011. This is 20% lower than its2008 peak.
