. Construction in the South East has also performedwell, with output increasing in real terms by lessthan 2% between 2007 and 2010. Cebr predict areal terms decline in the industry's GVA contributionto the region of almost 3%.. New housing declined by 17% and 20% in 2008 and2009 respectively, but increased by over 36% in2010. The sector accounted for 6.6% of the region'sworkplace GVA in 2008, above the UK average of6.4%. The South East has the largest constructionindustry in the UK in absolute terms.. The total contribution to regional GVA of theindustry stood at an estimated £32,732m in 2010.The corresponding regional multiplier is 94.6% ofthe UK-wide multiplier, meaning that only about5.6% of the impact is felt outside the South East. . The construction sector accounted for 7.4% of totalworkforce jobs in 2011. This was as high as 7.6%during 2008-09.. An estimated total 508,114 FTE jobs weresupported by construction activity throughout theSouth East in 2011, just over 1.4% lower than itspeak in 2009..
