. Construction output in the East Midlands alsoshowed an immediate impact from the recession,with a real decline of just over 10%. Cebr predictthat the direct GVA contribution of the industry tothe region will have declined by 9% in real termsbetween 2007 and 2010. The corresponding fall inconstruction output was almost 18%.. New housing plunged by 30% in 2008 and by afurther 43% in 2009. However, a private housingincrease drove 30% growth in new housing in 2010.. New infrastructure has grown at an annualised rateof just under 12% in the period 2008-10. . Employment in construction has fallen every yearsince 2007, falling sharply in 2009 and 2011 by 10%and 9% respectively. . The sector accounted for 7.4% of the region's entire workplace GVA, the third highest proportionin the UK.. The total contribution to regional GVA of theindustry stood at £14,463m in 2010. Thecorresponding regional multiplier is 90.1% of theUK-wide multiplier, meaning that about 9.9% of theimpact of the construction sector in the EastMidlands is felt elsewhere in the UK. . The construction sector accounted for 6.5% of totalworkforce jobs in 2011, down from a high of 7.7% in 2008.. A total 219,238 FTE jobs were supported byconstruction activity throughout the East Midlands in 2011, a staggering 66,000 less than in 2007..
