6Rubbish to Landfill, Recycling & Food WasteRubbish to landfill, recycling & food waste collections for Easter, May Bank Holiday & The Queen's JubileeSupporting Broadland's food waste collection scheme by enhanced recycling payments for diverting waste from landfill.These holiday collection arrangements apply to your green bins, grey bins, the black and clear sack collections as well as the food waste collections. Please refer to the Easter collection leaflet left under the lid of your brown bin for the garden waste collection dates over the holiday periods. Your bins/sacks should be put out in the correct place by 7am, as collection times may change. Bins not out when the refuse vehicle arrives cannot be emptied. We will not be able to take excess household waste. Extra recyclables only, may be put in a cardboard box beside the grey bin and will be taken. Bins should weigh no more than 80 kilos. For your convenience, household waste/recycling centres at Strumpshaw, Mile Cross and Mayton Wood (off the B1354 Horstead to Buxton Road) will be available throughout Easter. Broadland News Spring 20127Recycling and ReusingEvent gives new life to unwanted electrical goodsMore than 750 items were collected for reuse or recycling at an electrical give and take event organised by Broadland District Council - 5.81 tonnes saved from landfill. The event took place in January in Aylsham and was opened by council Chairman, Councillor Claudette Bannock. The most common things taken for reuse were hifi systems, but there was a wide variety of household items on offer from toasters to computers. Visitors were so pleased with the new items they took away that they donated more than £116 to the East Anglian Air Ambulance."It's brilliant that all these things, which could have ended up as a nuisance in landfill, will instead give pleasure to their new owners," said Cllr John Fisher, Broadland District Council's Portfolio Holder for Environmental Excellence. "Broadland residents have been terrific at taking these opportunities to make sure as little waste as possible ends up in landfill."Even non-working items will be put to use in other forms. Televisions and computer monitors will be recycled, and all other items removed by Impact East to provide work-based training for probationers. They will be re-conditioned for reuse or recycled where that's not possible. Broadland District Council is holding another one of its popular Waste Electrical Give and Take events on 24 April at Hinks Meadow in Taverham. This event will allow all residents the opportunity to give away their unwanted or broken electrical items and also provide anyone the opportunity to take away working, safety tested electrical items for free (with an optional donation box for the 'East Anglian Air Ambulance'). If you have items that still have life in them, but you no longer have a need for them, then the British Heart Foundation may well be able to take them for you, raising vital funds for the charity in the process. A house clearance service is also available.
