Greenland and global warmingthreat or opportunity?Greenland measures 2,166m km2. The world's largest island, it is almost nine times the size of the UK. However just 56,600 people share its harsh Arctic landscape. Nuuk, the largest town, is home to 15,500 inhabitants. The rest of the population live in smaller towns and settlements spread across a vast area. Considered to be one of the world's last true wildernesses, Greenland is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark."Rising sea levels caused by melting ice is of particular interest to the Netherlands, as much of its land lies below sea level, however this is a challenge that affects the whole world."The continuous effort to measure ice cap activity is extremely important and it is crucial that we use ESA's satellites provide information about the volume and movement of Greenland's sea and land ice. In August 2010, the Envisat recorded the 'calving' of a 245 km2 iceberg from Greenland's Petermann glacier. Operating at an altitude of 700km, ESA's CryoSat V satellite, determines the thickness of sea ice. Spring 2011 was the third lowest extent recorded. The first map of sea-ice thickness from ESA's CryoSat V mission was revealed on 21 June. Out ofthe ashes restoring Mueller's factory after the fireDevastated by fire, copper tube manufacturer Mueller Europe's factory in Bilston, West Midlands, had to temporarily cease production. Machinery and equipment across almost half of the production facility was damaged and stocks of copper tubing had been contaminated. However, following effective disaster recovery procedures and structural repair, Mueller was able to resume production six weeks later.
