Foreword Sarah Budd >>Catastrophic events, whether caused by human error, climate change, or natural phenomenon, can happen with little or no warning. In this edition of Range, we explore the need to evolve conventional approaches of predicting events to better protect and prepare our communities. In an exclusive interview with IBM, we hear about their smarter cities programme, and how they are using analytics to create cities for the future that are safe and effective, and prepared for extreme events. We also look at the important work our mechanical and electrical engineers are doing to help organisations understand how hazard related regulations apply to their businesses, and how putting these into practice can safeguard staff, the public, assets and reputations.According to the UK Committee on Climate Change, three of the largest risks to the UK are coastal flooding, inland flooding and severe weather. On the other hand, water is our most precious resource. It is high on the global agenda in terms of safeguarding fresh water provision, food production, and enhancing water quality. With the world's population predicted to rise to seven billion before the end of the year, and climate change increasing sea levels and rainfall, these issues have become far more pressing. As a large proportion of the world's population live in coastal areas, governments must take action now to prepare for flood events and protect vulnerable communities which need solutions for efficient and sustainable water management. In our special feature on 'deluge and drought', we explore the cutting edge technology we have developed to help us better predict and manage extreme water related events - whether there is too much water - or too little.I thank all contributors to this edition of Range, in particular Sharon Nunes of IBM for her insight into the invaluable work IBM is doing to create a smarter planet.Sarah Budd, Director, Waterrange3 2011 >> 3Beaver Architectural Ironmongery Ltd3:5CodePowersizePoweradjustmentmethodEN 1154 compliant / CE markedCover dims (mm)AdjustablebackcheckManualhold openDelayedclosingNon-projectiontrackFire tested to EN 1634 HWD- 2 hoursSpectrum 12 - 3Templateü63228 42OptionOptionüSpectrum 22 - 4Templateü6322842üOptionOptionOptionüSpectrum 32 - 5Springü5523638üOptionüOptionüSpectrum ClosersA heavy duty door closer, precision engineered with a 10 year guarantee, complete with a smooth slimline designer cover exclusive to Beaver.
