You can even take a boat trip to be drenched by the spray: very refreshing!Days 7-9 Fly from Iguaçu in Brazil to Cuiabá in the country's heartland and continue by road into the Pantanal, a vast reserve of wetlands, waterways and livestock ranches. Here, huge numbers of protected exotic birds, mammals and reptiles live harmoniously alongside cattle. The area is sparsely vegetated, so, unlike in jungle regions, you have a good chance of spotting many species: alligators, capybara, anteaters, giant storks, parrots and toucans are just some of the more commonly sighted ones. Stay at a well-appointed lodge and explore on foot, by canoe, open truck and on horseback. Day 10 Fly to Rio de Janeiro, a contrast to Buenos Aires but equally cosmopolitan.
