bauder.ie164Bauder DSE60Permeable Paving Planners, developers and local authorities are now giving more consideration to using permeable paving systems, as they can be more cost effective than traditional water collection and dispersal systems; they also offer environmental advantages such as the natural breakdown of pollutants and a proven method of helping to control rainwater run-off.Bauder DSE60 is the ideal drainage product to use beneath this form of paving, as it allows water to be absorbed and to a certain degree stored by the system, where it can then naturally evaporate back into the atmosphere. Any excess water can drain freely away. There are two forms of construction used in permeable paving, infiltration and porous. Infiltration permeable paving allows the water to pass through the open joints between the paving slabs or blocks, whereas, porous requires special paving blocks that actually allow water to pass through them. The type selected, is to some degree, governed by the amount of water being handled and the purpose of the paved finish. As a hard landscape finish for roofs, permeable paving can be used on podiums, underground car parks or simply as an alternative finish for terrace areas. The advantage when used in conjunction with DSE60, is uninterrupted multi-direction drainage and no need to create falls in either the roof or landscape construction. This will result in a shallower landscape build-up, which can be a real advantage with designs where the available upstand height may be very limited. The construction is generally lighter, which additionally reduces overall cost. This system also provides greater flexibility when choosing the positioning of drainage outlets and can be used in conjunction with Bauder linear drainage components where required to provide additional drainage from areas such as doorways and abutment walls to high level buildings and perimeters.1. 165 bauder.co.ukBauder DSE60Hard Landscaping Over a Compacted Sub Base Certain hard landscape finishes require a compacted sub base to spread loading and provide the required support. Typically, this would include finishes such as paving slabs, in situations where the surface levels need to be elevated, tarmac or resin bonded systems used for pathways or perhaps light vehicle trafficked surfaces such as flexible block paving, cobbles or setts. The material normally used for compacted construction is DTp type 1 granular sub base (formerly known as MOT 1) from Department of Transport specifications, which should be obtained from a certified source.Bauder DSE60 is the perfect product for constructing and receiving a compacted sub base, whist still providing multi-directional drainage beneath. When DTp type 1 is used, it can be applied directly into the profiled surface of the board without the need for a filter fleece layer. To ensure the long-term stability of the landscaping, it is important that the underlying waterproofing system is stable and can withstand the vibration from the mechanical compactor. For this reason, an inverted roof construction is considered unsuitable because the loose laid insulation boards allow too much underlying movement to allow adequate compaction. Cold or warm roof construction is fine, but in the case of the latter, it may be necessary to incorporate a higher density grade of PIR insulation if the finished surface needs to withstand light vehicular traffic such as cars. The minimum cover of compacted DTp type 1 sub base material above the DSE60 is 100 mm. As an approximate guide, one tonne of DTp type 1 will cover approximately 5m2 when compacted to a thickness of 100 mm.1.
