The Bauder Intensive Substrate has been developed as a lightweight alternative to help further reduce loadings where required.A major consideration for intensive soft landscaping on a roof is the adequate supply and retention of water during dry periods, because the available soil depth and the ability to retain water is significantly less than on natural ground. This usually means that the plants will need to be irrigated more often, and it is important that provision is made for this when designing an intensive green roof.A simple and environmentally friendly method of irrigation is to create a reservoir of water beneath the Bauder DSE60 by means of inserting damming pieces in the outlets. A self regulating irrigation unit set on the deck enclosing a float connected to a water inlet valve keeps the reservoir of water topped up. The water diffuses up through the drainage layer to feed the plants. bauder.ie162Bauder DSE60Creating Access Roadways & Concrete Support SlabsBauder DSE60 is a multi-functional product and is able to provide both drainage beneath and permanent support to roadways when used as shuttering to form concrete sub-bases cast into the profiles of the board. Once set, the concrete sub-base takes all the loading and the function of the DSE60 becomes simply a stable base to the roadway above, with high capacity multi-directional drainage beneath.Many large modern residential developments incorporate planted central courtyards to utilise these valuable areas, above the usual underground carpark, to provide a recreational environment for the residents. Also high-level multi-storey buildings will often require vehicular access for emergency services and maintenance vehicles.Once the concrete sub-base is in place, there are various traffic surfaces that can then be installed above, such as block paving, road asphalt etc. The choice is very much dependent on the anticipated load, frequency and type of traffic.1. Once completed, excess water drains away freely under the driveway to the nearest rainwater outlet, situated within adjacent soft landscaping. Surface water from the paved driveway falls to designated drainage points within the paving, although the outlet is situated at waterproofing level.CONCRETE SUPPORT SLABSIt is essential that a structural engineer assists you with specific information on loadings for your project.
